Children and teens fully participate in the life of St. Andrew and Holy Communion. They lead worship the first Sunday of every month, serve as acolytes and ushers, sing in the choir and move with Sacred Dancers. SAHC is a place where children are safe, celebrated and included. Sunday school is held throughout the year from 9:45 a.m. until 10:20 a.m.. Classes use Living the Good News, a lectionary-based Episcopal curriculum. A teen youth group participates in both social and outreach programs and meets Sunday evenings at 7:00 p.m., followed by Candlelight Complinefor the Congregation, led by the Youth, at 8:00 p.m. . Confirmation classes are held year-round. Candidates for confirmation are paired with adult mentors with whom they maintain long-term relationships. Special events during the year include the Epiphany Pageant, where children in costume act the roles of Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, the angels, shepherds, and kings in this retelling of the Christmas story. Holy Week begins with a child riding a pony and playing the role of Jesus entering Jerusalem during a procession of the palms and parishioners along South Orange Avenue. In the summer, a Bible story is learned through drama, music and movement during a week-long vacation camp. Child care is offered for young children during the 10:30 a.m. service. |
